Reflecting on Amy's Gran Fondo 2022

20 Sep 2022

After a 2 year absence, Amy’s Gran Fondo returned this year with a bang!

From Saturday 10th to Sunday 11th of September 2022, the Great Ocean Road once again became home to the cycling race that means so much to so many Victorians. For many riders, this is a yearly tradition which was sorely missed during COVID-19. It was great to see so many people out and riding again with friends and family!

Amy’s Gran Fondo 2022 consisted of several rides and categories – the 130km Amy’s Gran Fondo (Age Category Race and Recreational Category), the 45km Medio Fondo, the 45km Amy’s Gravel Fondo and the 14km Family Fondo.

Amongst the podium finishes there were some familiar names – our very own Lisa Jacobs and also Lauretta Hanson from Trek Segafredo, who completed a signing at our tent! The foreshore expo was buzzing with so many stalls and we’re sure that many bike riders left with more cycling merch than they’d like to admit!

As part of Gran Fondo weekend, a memorial was also held on Saturday to commemorate and honour all those who have lost their lives while cycling on Australian roads. It was a quiet and sombre gathering at which Amy Gillett’s parents, Mary and Denis Safe, were in attendance. The memorial really reminds us of the drive behind the Amy Gillett Foundation and inspires us to push even harder in our mission for safe cycling in Australia.

This Gran Fondo, the Amy Gillett Foundation managed to raise a whopping $78,748.58, totally smashing our $50,000 target! Every dollar raised will go towards making the road safe for all bike riders.

The Amy Gillett Foundation would like to sincerely thank everyone who participated in the event and everyone who fundraised or donated.

We would also like to sincerely thank the UCI, O2 Events, Mantra Lorne and the Lorne Hotel for making this incredible event possible.
