Wheels in motion for safer roads

Continental Tyres partners with Amy Gillett Foundation

A partnership with the Amy Gillett Foundation and Continental Tyres is expected to provide traction for both organisations’ ongoing commitment to road safety.

The new three year major partnership with Continental Tyres will see the car tyre safety specialist become involved in a number of the Foundation’s safety awareness programs.

As Continental Tyres General Manager Asia/Pacific Steve Brown explains, Amy Gillett Foundation’s suite of programs resonates powerfully with the leading global manufacturer for car and bicycle tyres.

“Known for our commitment to developing high quality products for vehicles and bicycles, road safety has always been paramount at Continental Tyres.  Establishing a formal relationship with the Amy Gillett Foundation enables us to assist an organisation that not only shares our vision, but is equally as proactive in setting about to realise it,” said Brown.

The timely news coincides with the launch by the Federal Minister for Transport, the Hon. Anthony Albanese, of ‘A Metre Matters.’ A major new community service announcement from the Foundation, A Metre Matters encourages motorists to leave a gap of at least one metre when passing cyclists.

Amy Gillett Foundation Sponsorship & Fundraising Manager David Lee sees the partnership as a chance to strengthen new and existing campaigns.

“Not only does this partnership make sense in terms of shared values and vision, but it will enable the Foundation to truly forge ahead with key program objectives that are critical to creating safer roads for motorists and cyclists,” said Lee.

“The launch of A Metre Matters was immediately followed by a terrifically successful 830km+ road safety and fundraising ride from Canberra – Melbourne. Initiatives of that magnitude can only be made possible through the generosity of partners such as Continental Tyres,’ he said.

Other programs to benefit from the partnership will include:
  • Road Right - An innovative program to encourage learner & probationary drivers to better understand the road laws in relation to cyclists
  • Amy’s Rides – A series of state based mass participation rides that provide the foundation with a way of communicating key safety messages to a large volume of consumers

Inspired by the life of Amy Gillett, the Foundation was formed to reduce the incidence of death and injury caused by interaction between cyclists and motorists.
